Deal and Heal: my big advice for your approach to fatigue recovery

Updated: Dec 11, 2023

I’m always looking to shortcut the advice I give to the people I’m helping - after all, living with fatigue means the easier (and shorter) the conversations you have, the better.

I want to share one such example here, because it gets to the absolute truth of what I know, and have seen, to be the best approach to your recovery journey.

Quite simply, I've started to talk to my clients about the importance of: “Deal & Heal”

You need to find a way to DEAL with life now, finding better ways to cope today - both practically and emotionally. And only then, from that more stable and solid state, should you turn your sights to the things that will hopefully help you to HEAL.

With conditions such as ME/CFS, post viral fatigue and Fibromyalgia there’s still so much that’s unknown. Nobody yet truly understands why some of us are more susceptible to these conditions, and whether there’s a magic cure that is yet to be discovered. I very much hope that medical science will uncover the answers to this very soon, but for now I’ve seen absolute proof time and time again that the best way to regain a life that’s worth living is to find a way to cope better today (‘Deal’), which then gives your whole system the space and calm to be able to do what it needs to in order to start improving (‘Heal’).

Whether you’re working with someone like me to help you with this, or managing your own journey, I encourage you to look at it as a two-stage process. First of all, deal with how life is today, and then turn your sights and consider the variety of things that could help boost your healing process. Otherwise, you could waste time, money (and valuable energy!) on things that your body isn’t in a state to fully accept and benefit from. You don’t walk before you run, so don’t try and heal until you’ve found a way to deal.

If you want me to help you with this, even just to talk through what you’ve done to date and get some encouragement or pointers, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. I love talking to people who I can help, wherever they are in the world. But if you’re planning to go it alone, please have a think about what you’ve been focussing on so far, and whether you’re jumping to heal before you have properly learned how to deal.

I wish you every luck with this and I hope this blog content resonates. I’d love to hear your comments and thoughts.

Take care

Pamela
